Merry Christmas from China!

It’s officially Christmas Eve in China AND America, so most importantly, Merry Christmas! The semester is almost done and for at least tomorrow we’ll take a break from classes to actually celebrate Christmas, hooray!

I have at least three more posts I could write about Christmas in China, but since it is literally Christmas Eve and I need to get ready to “sing” in front of hundreds of people (yes really) here are just a few thoughts currently floating around in my head.

  • Central heat is great and underrated. Fun fact: I usually get in bed by 11:30pm because that’s when I usually start seeing my own breath inside my apartment.
  • China’s own traditions for Christmas are a little bit out there, but I give China props for embracing it and am all about getting apples on Christmas Eve.
  • American/Western Christmas traditions are A LOT out there. Explaining to students why families buy dead trees to bring inside their houses is…difficult.
  • Explaining the story of Christmas is worse.
  • I will never enjoy singing as much as the majority of China. Ever.
  • Listening to my own recorded voice will always be cringeworthy.

With finals wrapping up, I’ll be catching up on posts and detailing exactly what happens when I have to lip sync in front of my own students on Christmas Eve. If you’ve got anything you’d like to hear more about, let me know in the comments, and have a great holiday season!
