It’s officially Christmas Eve in China AND America, so most importantly, Merry Christmas! The semester is almost done and for at least tomorrow we’ll take a break from classes to actually celebrate Christmas, hooray!
I have at least three more posts I could write about Christmas in China, but since it is literally Christmas Eve and I need to get ready to “sing” in front of hundreds of people (yes really) here are just a few thoughts currently floating around in my head.
- Central heat is great and underrated. Fun fact: I usually get in bed by 11:30pm because that’s when I usually start seeing my own breath inside my apartment.
- China’s own traditions for Christmas are a little bit out there, but I give China props for embracing it and am all about getting apples on Christmas Eve.
- American/Western Christmas traditions are A LOT out there. Explaining to students why families buy dead trees to bring inside their houses is…difficult.
- Explaining the story of Christmas is worse.
- I will never enjoy singing as much as the majority of China. Ever.
- Listening to my own recorded voice will always be cringeworthy.
